Discover the magic of chromoskedasic sabatier, an experimental darkroom process that builds upon traditional black-and-white development by introducing additional chemicals and controlled light exposure to create unpredictable, shifting tones that can resemble leather or metal. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of the chromo process, exploring how chemistry interacts with silver gelatin paper to create both imageless abstractions and photographic-based pieces. Through guided demonstrations and individual experimentation, students will create unique works that embrace chance and transformation.

Those interested in incorporating a photographic element are welcome to bring a black-and- white negative (35mm or medium format) to use in their compositions. This is not required, as the focus of the workshop will be on painting with chemicals. Beautiful images can be made without using a negative.

This workshop is open to all skill levels — no prior darkroom experience required. All materials are provided. This workshop is perfect for both beginners and experienced darkroom artists looking to push the boundaries of photographic expression. Leave behind expectations and embrace the unexpected beauty that emerges from the process.
