Join Paper Press Punch for a 2-day workshop, exploring the use of the Risograph duplicator to create 2-color photographs. You will learn the history and artistic use of the Risograph, in addition to the ins and outs of this quirky print process. We will go over how to prepare your files for printing, explore simple color separation techniques both digitally and manually, and experiment with different color combinations. Each participant will walk away with a small edition of their own Riso printed photos, as well as prints from all participants.
No experience necessary. All materials provided. Workshop will meet at Paper Press Punch Studios; details will be provided to attendees.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR / PAPER PRESS PUNCH
Paper Press Punch is a small Risograph print and book studio run by artists Jessica Hoffman and Justin Quinlan. Our community focused studio offers artists the opportunity to learn all about the quirkiness of the Risograph duplicator through workshops, open studio hours, and Zine of the Month Club. In addition to working with artists, we’ve collaborated with Short Run Seattle, Foundry10, yəhaw̓ Collective, Mount Analogue, SOIL Gallery, Henry Art Gallery, and many other local organizations to produce unique books and prints. Jessica comes from a book arts and printmaking background, earning an MFA in Book Art and Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. She teaches photography at Seattle Central College and South Seattle College and is on the Advisory Board for Short Run Seattle. Justin studied painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. He was a past contributor to Seattle-based quarterlies Hair Flip, Thick as Thieves, and Intruder Comics. He’s been an exhibitor for several local comix fests and fairs, including Short Run Seattle, Exterminator City, Olympia Comics Fest, and Comix Thing in Portland, OR. We are located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle at the Old Rainier Bottling Plant.
